Hello hello! I haven’t posted in over a month because I’ve been busy at my new job as an You guys, I really feel like I’ve found my calling. I absolutely love working in healthcare, especially in emergency medicine. It’s very meaningful for me because of my own journey in the healthcare system. For years, I struggled with debilitating symptoms. I was gaslit by many doctors and told over and over again that it was just “anxiety”. People I thought were friends didn’t even take me seriously. It felt like a battle that I was fighting alone during my lowest time. Now, at my job, when we respond to a 911 call, it’s usually for one of the worst days of the patient’s life. In many of my patients’ faces, I see myself as I was three or four years ago. Scared. In pain. Desperate for answers. And I treat every patient how I wish I was treated when I was in their shoes. In fact, it was because of two special nurses, PA, and a doctor, that I got my diagnosis. They listened to me and took me seriously. But most importantly, they were kind. They didn’t brush me off; they treated me with compassion. That is the example I hope to pay forward as a healthcare worker. In my short time as an EMT, I’ve been able to see how much a caring word or gesture can mean to a patient. Even just to say to a scared parent, “We’ll take good care of your daughter,” can bring them a small measure of relief during a difficult time. A kind word can go a long way. And even though as EMTs we don’t diagnose medical conditions, there is still a role we can play in providing compassionate patient care. ♥️ Unfortunately though, this all means I have less time for cooking! So please enjoy this recycled recipe – my favorite vegan superfood soup, filled with plant-based nutrients and antioxidants to keep your immune system strong.
